For this project, our task was to create a video explaining the physics of a sport and how to perform that sports action better. My group chose volleyball as the sport and hitting(many call it spiking) as the action. We chose volleyball because I play it and it was original. The reason why we chose hitting over setting or passing was because I understood more about the offensive aspect of volleyball rather than the defense. The video above is our completion of the project.
First, we started with the planning process. We created a story board made of 3 by 5 notecards. On each panel was a part of the film. This was incredibly helpful in actually making the video because with the cards, we weren't improvising. Next, we got footage of me at volleyball practice. I brought my iPad and asked my teammates to record me hitting from different angles. I then imported the videos to my computer and started editing them on iMovie. While I edited, my group members created a script to use as a voice over in the clip. Calculations were made after the script was created and we fit them into places in the script that made sense. We calculated the amount of force that I exert on the ground when I take my approach, the distance I jump off the ground, and the velocity of the ball when I hit. When that was all done I finished off my editing process and the video was completed.
The group that I was paired with was magnificent. They cooperated and came up with good ideas. I recall only one skirmish that was created because of miscommunication on my part.
Throughout this project I have learned how to more deeply understand iMovie and how to figure out things about iMovie that I don't understand. Once you learn how to use video editing tools, you discover how many amazing things you can do. I could have spread the work out between the four of us better than I did. I am learning how to do that by still showing leadership but also having assignments that everyone can do so we each do equal work. I could also have let others show more leadership. Today, I practice this by letting others speak and participate good ideas.
Some things that went well during the project were the positive attitude throughout the whole project and the rapid fire of ideas. Some pits of the project were the camera quality of my iPad and that I had to change my group!
